Yesterday, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which are both powered by the new A20 Pro chip. As usual, the company has praised its latest and greatest SoC for being better than all of its predecessors, but how does it actually perform in a benchmark? Thankfully, we have a preliminary answer for that today, since two new iPhones identifying themselves as the iPhone 19,2 and iPhone 19,3 have just run Geekbench 6.7.
Their single-core scores are 4,719 and 4,612, respectively, while their multi-core scores are 12,677 and 11,819, respectively. If we average the single-core scores we get about 4,665, while for the multi-core scores we get about 12,248. Compared to an average of the previous generation iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, the new results represent a 21-23% improvement in both single-core and multi-core performance. That's definitely solid, especially considering that the A20 Pro is built on a more power-efficient 2nm process too.
iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on Geekbench
The A20 Pro's CPU frequency goes up to 4.93GHz, and unsurprisingly the new iPhones both have 12GB of RAM. They of course run iOS 27, which is due to be released on Monday, September 14.
The upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9600 has managed a single-core score of 4,139 and a multi-core score of 13,285 in Geekbench, which puts it slightly ahead of the A20 Pro in the latter, but way behind in the former. All of these results should be taken with a gigantic dose of salt, however, since they are all achieved by prototype devices.
There are results floating out there for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC too, but they're either on a different version of Geekbench or obviously too low to be taken seriously. So be careful when evaluating wild claims like "A20 Pro smokes the Android competition" or some such stuff. Everything will become clearer once the Dimensity 9600 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 get official later this month.
